Hotel Weisses Kreuz: A Place of Encounter Through the Centuries Whether as a general store, inn, or traditional hotel, the Weisses Kreuz in Burgeis has always been a meeting place and has been owned by the Theiner family since 1871. Nestled in the authentic Vinschgau Valley, this architecturally remarkable four-star superior hotel seamlessly blends historical charm with modern design, tradition with innovation. Together with the heritage-listed Ansitz zum Löwen, this stylish design ensemble in the heart of the South Tyrolean village offers 47 uniquely designed rooms and suites, exclusively for adults.
At the award-winning gourmet restaurant Mamesa, guests can savor culinary creations ranging from Alpine classics to Mediterranean dishes and international delicacies. The finest wines from around the world are stored in the exclusive “the blue wineroom”.
Local natural materials, such as wood and Sarner porphyry stone, define the 1,300-square-meter Aura Mea Spa, featuring three saunas, relaxation areas, and pools. Selected treatments with South Tyrolean natural cosmetics complete the wellness offerings.

Weisses Kreuz in Burgeis: A Historic Hotel with Countless Stories
More than 150 years ago, Josef Theiner purchased the Weisses Kreuz in Burgeis, including its adjacent farmland. A part of the building was transformed into a general store, later expanding into a thriving wine trade, an inn, and finally, a hotel.
In 1974, Maria Theiner acquired the dilapidated building complex across from the hotel. The “Ansitz zum Löwen”, with its crooked walls, decayed wood, and broken windows, hardly looked like a noble residence. However, with an extensive restoration completed in 2013, the Hotel Weisses Kreuz and the Ansitz zum Löwen were seamlessly combined, forming the heart of the small Upper Vinschgau village around a newly created village square.
Ansitz zum Löwen: Each Room Tells a Different Era’s Story
Following a careful restoration from 2011 to 2013, the Ansitz zum Löwen was revived as the lively center of Burgeis’ village life, blending tradition with modernity. Guests stay in ten regal Renaissance suites, sleeping beneath centuries-old, hand-carved wooden ceilings.
A modern extension completes the architectural ensemble. Architects Elke Ladurner and Stefan Marx gladly share insights into the unique spaces and their design concepts in an exclusive interview.
