Chef Raniero di Benedetto and Pastry Chef Sara Kulesko will be joining “Il Campaccio” restaurant as of October 2020. Born in Rome in 1996, in just a few years, the two have gained considerable experience working with highly renowned chefs. For example, in Rome they worked with Anthony Genovese and Riccardo Di Giacinto, while in Milan they served with Antonio Guida at the Mandarin Oriental, Matteo Torretta at Asola Cucina Sartoriale and Enrico Bartolini at Mudec.
The several experiences gained in a few years, both in Italy and abroad, have allowed these young chefs to face different realities and gather the most diverse source of inspiration. This is also the origin of our chefs’ menus, inspired by the changing seasons and by local products, as well as by drawing on European and worldwide culinary traditions. Working as the in-house kitchen of a Tuscan farmhouse, we have a much defined identity, but with “young and open minds” behind us, we can explore innovative solutions and influences that allow us to discover new horizons.
Mastrojanni enriches its wine-related tourism offer in Montalcino
Riccardo Illy and Andrea Machetti present to the guests the new “Il Campaccio” restaurant located in the charming relais, the result of the renovation works carried out on the medieval village of the Tuscan estate
Montalcino, Siena, Italy
Between two farms in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the extreme south-east edge of the municipality of Montalcino in the province of Siena, at the highest point of a 96-hectare estate and within one of the most distinctive panoramic setting of the Tuscan landscape, Riccardo Illy – Chairman of Mastrojanni winery and sole director of Polo del Gusto Illy (a newly established company combining together all the non-coffee excellences of Illy Group), has recently completed the first investment phase, amounting to over 2 million euros, in order to expand its offer of incoming wine-related tourism in Tuscany.
It is a luxury relais with 6 double bedrooms, 5 suites and a wonderful swimming pool overlooking the Val d’Orcia, a charming and immaculate valley, marked by the passage of the Orcia river and enriched by precious weather influences related to the Monte Amiata’s presence, a volcano that got extinct over 40 thousand years ago.
The historic production of Brunello di Montalcino wine, carried out for over forty years in over-39-hectare vineyards, has been enriched, turning Mastrojanni into a destination for weekends, holidays and private wine tours. It is the perfect location for those seeking the ideal combination of exciting views, full relaxation and excellent tastings, now further enhanced by the new restaurant located inside the historic village, also delighted by the cuisine of chef Adriano Antonelli.
The enchanting Tuscan landscape is the breath-taking backdrop that helps make a visit to “Il Campaccio” restaurant in Mastrojanni a unique experience: 100 square meters of indoor space and terraces capable of seating up to 30 people. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the relais and looks out onto the gentle hills of the Val d’Orcia, at the foot of mount Amiata, a scenario that seems to be outside of time, where sight meets taste, in a harmony that speaks purposefully of authenticity, local territory and tradition.
At the table, the dining experience is overseen by the multifaceted mastery of Chef Antonelli, born in 1988, a true artist of flavors. He has a diverse and eclectic background, having graduated in painting and restoration, and only later came to the world of haute cuisine.
Through his dishes, the chef knows how to use his varied artistic experiences to give shape to a creative cuisine that, through the local products and the culinary history of Tuscany, manages to bring together memories, experiences and seasonality.
At the beginning of 2020, a further lot of the Relais is expected to be completed, which will house a new reception and wellness area, thus completing the entire renovation project of the village, combining all the best hospitality services with those of cellar tasting and touring.
Andrea Machetti, CEO of Relais Mastrojanni, said. “With the opening of the restaurant located in the Mastrojanni Relais, we are completing a three-year restructuring and investment process, including the new aging cellar, all aiming at promoting the best wine tourism in the Montalcino area, trying to further increase the attraction of the local brand through our services’ quality. We want our guests and wine lovers to live the tasting experience in the place where the wine is produced, as we believe that this is the best way to promote not only our Brunello, but also Tuscany, its flavors and its enchanting places.”
A Resort surrounded by Brunello vineyards
Mastrojanni Relais is Illy Group’s latest investment in Montalcino.
The resort is located at the top of the estate, in proximity to the Poderi San Pio and Loreto, and offers an excellent panoramic view.
The site is rich in history; here, in the Middle Ages, stood a small fortified settlement which protected the main lines of communication, the Via Francigena and the Via dei Papi (the Popes’ Way).
The latter, passing through the Orcia river, served as a connection between Bagno Vignoni and the Abbey of Sant’Antimo.
The fortified stone walls are still clearly visible and create a unique atmosphere.
The whole structure has been skilfully restored under the supervision of Andrea Machetti, and the rooms are cosy, elegant and with a refined design, yet essential and functional.
Mastrojanni Relais comprises 6 Deluxe rooms, 5 suites and a wonderful swimming pool with view on the Val d’Orcia
In the heart of the land of Brunello
The Wine Estate Mastrojanni lies in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the south easternmost corner of Montalcino Municipality, in the Province of Siena. An artistic and architectural heritage, surrounded by the majesty of its natural landscapes and, above all, an area particularly suitable for vine cultivation: the homeland of Brunello.
